Second World War Roll of Honour

Professor John BriggsThe University must never forget the debt we owe to the members of our community who served and fell during the Second World War.

The Roll of Honour is the University’s tribute to these men and women. On 11 April 1948, memorial tablets inscribed with their names were dedicated at a service in the University’s Bute Hall. The tablets are now within the University Chapel, where the annual service of remembrance is celebrated every November 11th.

Since 1948, the University has maintained its Rolls of Honour, adding the names of those whose sacrifice we learn of. The online Roll of Honour gives us the opportunity to provide some small detail of the lives of those who served – their studies at the University, their contribution to the war effort. We invite their descendants to add to the information provided here and further commemorate their service.
