Biography of 2nd Lieutenant McKenzie Fleming Turpie

McKenzie Fleming Turpie was born 1895 in Glasgow, son of John and Minnie Turpie. He entered the University to study medicine in 1912, and had enrolled on year 3 of the course in 1914, when the call of service proved too much. As a member of the University Officer Training Corps, he was commissioned soon after enlisting, becoming 2nd Lieutenant on 16th December 1914.

He died at Bazentin-le-Petit, during the actions on the Somme, on 23 July 1916 aged 21 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. His name also appears on the North Lancashire Regiment online Roll of Honour.
