Biography of 2nd Lieutenant Thomas Andrew Jamieson Aitchison

Thomas Andrew Jamieson Aitchison was born on the 3rd August 1888 in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire to Agnes and John, a Goods Carrier. He attended the Vale of Leven Academy.

In 1911 Thomas came to the University of Glasgow to study for a degree in Medicine. During his studies he never actually stayed in Glasgow, continuing to live at home in Alexandria. He took a variety of subjects, including: Materia Medica, Pathology and Surgery. However he never graduated as he left for the army.

In 1914 he had been a member of the Officers Training Corps and so he was gazetted to the 12th Bn. Highland Light Infantry as a 2nd Lieutenant. On the 7th June 1916 he was wounded whilst fighting and two days later, on 9th June 1916, 2nd Lieutenant Thomas Andrew Jamieson Aitchison died, aged 27 years old. He is buried in the Vermelles British Cemetery.
