Lieutenant Peter Ratcliffe Jacobs

Biography of Lieutenant Peter Ratcliffe Jacobs

Peter Ratcliffe Jacobs was born 1890, in Greenock, and was the son of Thomas Ratcliffe Jacobs - a solicitor.

In 1913, Peter joined the University of Glasgow to study Law, taking a course in Scots Law in his first year. He did not continue his studies in 1914, however, most likely due to the outbreak of War.

Peter fought in the First World War as part of the 10th Northumberland Fusiliers, and was made a Lieutenant on the 5th August 1915.

In 1919, upon his return from war, Peter re-enrolled at the University - repeating his first year, but this time studying Mercantile Law as well as Scots Law. He abandoned his studies after this initial year.

Peter went on to become a solicitor in Greenock.
