William Nicolson


William Nicolson was born in Chrysten, Lanarkshire, to Janet and William. His father worked as a shipping manager in Grangemouth.

In 1912 William came to the University of Glasgow to study Medicine. He stayed for two years, taking subjects including Anatomy and Physiology, and passed his second professional exam to be a doctor.

In October 1914 he joined the Officer Training Corps and by January 1915 he was gazetted to the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He went to France in October 1915 and was killed in action on 13th August 1916, aged just 22 years old. William is buried in Adanac Military Cemetery.
