Francis Ramsay Mackenzie

Francis Ramsay Mackenzie was born 15th February 1884 in Edinburgh to Jessie Jeffrey Ramsay and Thomas Dingwall Mackenzie. He had four siblings: Alexander, Jessie, Joan and Thomas.

In 1915 from July until September Francis was a member of the Officers Training Corps. He then became a Second Lieutenant in the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders. He took part in the Battle of Albert at the Battle of Le Transloy where he went missing on the 1st July 1916. It was later found that he had died on this day and he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Francis left a wife, Elizabeth Mary Stark, who he had married only months before, on 28th December 1915 in Glasgow. They had one child, Frances Elma Mackenzie who was born after his death in 1916. Sadly she died aged 19 months in May 1918.
