Corporal Thomas Duncan MacKenzie, MA, was the son of Mr Alexander MacKenzie, 210 Battlefield Road, Glasgow, was born at Old Cathcart, Renfrewshire, on the 20th August 1892, and educated at Queen's Park Public School, the High School of Glasgow and Glasgow University, graduating with second-class Honours in Classics in October 1914.
He took the Hastie Bursary (Classical) in 1910, and a prize in Italian in 1911. He won the Muirhead Prize for unseen Latin translation in 1913. His excellent undergraduate record could have been predicted from his school record. At Queen's Park School he gained the GBP 5, GBP 10, and GBP 15 Bursaries and the Dux Gold Medal for 1909. At the High School he gained a special prize for the Session 1910-1911 in Form VI. Classical. He was a member of the School Cadet Corps and joined Kitchener's Army at the beginning of September 1914. He was killed in action at Thiepval on the 1st July 1916. He was 23.
