Robert Brown Strang


Robert Brown Strang was born on the 20th August 1892 in Beechwood Drive, Tollcross, Shettleston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire. His father, also called Robert, worked as a cattle dealer, and his mother was Catherine Strang (nee Madden), who had married on the 5th March 1880 in Blackfriars, Glasgow.

Robert attended Allan Glen's School in Glasgow before in 1911, he came to the University of Glasgow to study the Arts. He took: Logic, Moral Philosophy, Constitutional Law and Mathematics. During this time it appears he also worked for Messrs Anderson and Patterson, a law office in Glasgow. The family were living at 3 Woodend Terrace, Mount Vernon, Glasgow.

Robert did not graduate as he enlisted with the Scots Guards in 1914. He served with them in France before being gazetted to the Royal Scots Fusiliers in October 1915. 2nd Lieutenant Robert Brown Strang died on the 12th August 1916 and is buried in Contalmaison Chateau Cemetery. Robert was 23 years old.
