Roll of Honour
Robert Rennie was born on the 21st March 1892 in Balmaghie, Kirkcudbrightshire, son of Alexander Rennie, a ploughman. Robert studied for an arts degree, and studied Moral and Political philosophy in his final year before graduating MA in June 1914.
He was studying for the ministry when war broke out. He went to France in November 1914 as a signaller with the 5th Scottish Rifles, but when he was commissioned in November 1915, it was in the 9th Scottish Rifles. He was killed in action on 9th February 1916, and buried in the Nieppe Communal Cemetery, North West of Armentieres in France. He is also listed on the Rolls of Honour in Crossmichael and Balmaghie Parish Churches.
