William Watt Farrar

William Watt Farrar was born in 1875 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, the son of Joseph and Mary Farrar. He was educated at the Gainsborough Grammar School and came to the University of Glasgow to study Medicine. William graduated MB ChB on 23rd July 1901.

William was a Medical Practitioner in Lancashire and in Devon before moving to Misterton where he was in private practice. In 1909 he married Nellie Spencer from Gainsborough in Blackwell, Derbyshire.

William accepted a commission as Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps. After serving for a time in Mesopotamia he was sent to India to run an army hospital in Bombay and it was while here he contracted cholera from which he died on the 10th August 1916. Lieutenant William Watt Farrar is commemorated on the Kirkee memorial in India.
