Roll of Honour
David Buchanan was born on the 5th May 1889 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, and was the son of Robert and Mary Buchanan, of Auchenleck Terrace, Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire.
David attended the University of Glasgow from 1906-1909 and graduated MA on the 8th June 1909.
David studied a variety of subjects including Greek, Mathematics, Latin and Chemistry. He also received prizes including a second class certificate in Chemistry and a prize for his Mathematic studies.
Private David Buchanan died in the Battle of the Somme on the 20th July 1916, aged 27. Davidâ€™s brother, Private John Buchanan of the 16th Bn. Highland Light Infantry, also died in the battle of the Somme on the 1st July 1916, aged 21. Both David and John are listed on the Thiepval Memorial in France.
