First Honorary Degrees for Women
The University conferred honorary degrees on Mrs [Janet] Campbell of Tulliechewan Castle, Emily Davies, Dorothy Elder and Agnes Weston. The honorary degrees, conferred during the Jubilee celebrations, were the first to be awarded by the University to women.

Biology Building
The Biology Building was opened by Sir Joseph Hooker as part of the University's ninth jubilee celebrations. It was subsequently renamed the Bower Building.
