Humanity
Description
Under the terms of the Nova Erectio, the teaching of Latin was the responsibility of the regents: the title of Professor of Humanity was occasionally applied to one of the regents from 1618. A separate Professorship was instituted in 1682 in accordance with the recommendation of the Commission of Visitation of 1664. After a lapse, the Chair was revived in 1706.
