Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (John Elder Chair)
Description
The John Elder Chair of Naval Architecture was named for John Elder (1824-1869), the Clyde shipbuilder and marine engineer. It was founded in 1883 and endowed by Elder's widow, Isabella (1828-1905).
In 2001 the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering merged with the Department of Ship and Marine Technology at the University of Strathclyde to form the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, jointly owned by the Universities.
