Medicine (Burton Chair)

Description

The Burton Chair of Medicine was founded in 1987 applying part of the income from the TM and HG Burton Fund. The fund's trustees had expressed their desire that "the income should be used principally to establish a Burton Chair and a Burton Lectureship in perpetuity in those fields of medicine which, at the time when the posts fell vacant, were at the front of medical research...", and two appointments that year, to the chairs of Medical Genetics and Neurology, were made using money from the fund.
