Reith Hall

Description

Reith Hall was acquired by the University from the University of Strathclyde in 1985. The building is named for Lord Reith, the first Director-General of the BBC and the Rector of the University from 1965 to 1968.

The residence, in Botanic Crescent, accommodated 110 students in the main building and in an annexe at the rear It provided full catering during term time and operated as a hotel during vacations (when notable guests included the Bolshoi Ballet troupe). The building was slightly damaged by fire in 1987. It was sold in the mid-1990s to developers.
