Galloway House
Description
Galloway House was one of five houses that comprised Queen Margaret Halls, a residence for the female students of Queen Margaret College. The house was named in honour of Janet Ann Galloway who was the Secretary at Queen Margaret College until 1909.
Galloway House was previously a small hotel located at 18-19 Bute Gardens and was acquired in 1946 along with 9 Bute Gardens. The property at 9 Bute Gardens became Melville House, another residence part of Queen Margaret Halls, named after Frances Melville, the College’s Mistress from 1909-1935. In 1948, an additional house at 20 Bute Gardens was taken over and added to Galloway House.
