Charles Hepburn
Biography of Charles Hepburn
Charles Arthur Hepburn (d 1971) was a whisky broker and one of the University's benefactors. He was awarded an LLD in 1964.
Hepburn served in the First World War as a Captain in the Royal Field Artillery, and then established with Herbert Ross a successful whisky blending and broking firm, Hepburn & Ross. The business was sold in 1959, and Hepburn distributed much of the procedes of the sale to institutions such as Glasgow Cathedral, Hillhead High School and the Scottish Rugby Union. He gifted works of art to the University and contributed to the cost of cleaning the stonework in University Gardens and the stained glass windows in the Randolph Hall.
