Biography of Helen Rutherfurd

Helen Rutherfurd was one of the first women to matriculate at Queen Margaret College as a University student. She graduated in 1898 with first class honours in Classics. Rutherfurd was considered to be Professor Gilbert Murray's best student in her year and was awarded an Oxford Scholarship, which she was unable to take up.

Rutherfurd taught in England and Glasgow before being appointed the first Mistress of Method at the Glasgow Training College. She was subsequently Warden at Jordanhill College, 1905 to 1932.
