Razia Sultana Mir was born in Multan in British India (now in Pakistan) in 1942.

She completed her first degree at Nishtar Medical College and Hospital in the southern Punjab, where she graduated with an MBBS in 1965.

Razia moved to Glasgow with her husband Saboor in 1965, (after having been married only a few months) and began working for various hospitals in Glasgow and the surrounding area. In 1969, Razia began studying for an MSc in Immunology at the University of Glasgow in the Candlemas term. Her thesis title was: The role of agents which augment or depress the immunological response.

She graduated from the University of Glasgow in Absentia in 1973.

She became a doctor in Hertfordshire after graduating, working for the NHS for over 40 years, specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology.

She died after a battle with a rare form of Parkinson’s disease in 2018.
