Biography of Margaret Barr Bryson Mitchell

Margaret Mitchell was the first woman student to graduate with distinction in law at the University of Glasgow. She was only the fourth woman to graduate in Law from Glasgow, Madge Easton Anderson being the first in 1919.

Margaret was born in Glasgow on 4th May 1898 to William and Laura Mitchell. Her father was a Glasgow graduate in Arts (M.A. 1883) and Law (B.L.1889) and practised as a writer in the city. Margaret had an outstanding undergraduate record and followed in her father's footsteps (M.A. 1920; LL.B. 1923). She qualified as a solicitor and was a member of the Faculty of Procurators. She lived in the West end of Glasgow during her working life and died in 1973.
