Biography of Donald Cameron

Donald Cameron was a medical graduate of the University of Glasgow.

He was born in Salen, Argyll in 1903, the son of Donald, a merchant, and Catherine Cameron. The family were living in North Tolsta, Stornoway when Donald enrolled to study medicine at the University of Glasgow, in session 1923-24 when he was 20 years old. In his first year, he signed up for classes in Zoology within the Faculty of Medicine.

Donald was an excellent student, winning 6 academic prizes during his time at the University. These included a Medal and First Class Certificate in Junior Clinical Surgery, and First Class Certificates in Zoology, Botany and Senior Clinical Surgery. Donald was also a keen runner, captaining the Hares and Hounds, a university running club, in session 1926-27.

He graduated MBChB in 1928 and worked as a medical practitioner. In the late 1930s he moved to Cambridge where he worked as a GP, and at the Infectious Diseases Hospital. He died in Cambridge in 1988.
