Alexanderina Matheson

Alexanderina Matheson (known as Alice), was born on the 27th of November, 1903, in Ullapool, Scotland. She was the seventh child of Donald and Isabella Matheson. Her father worked as a Merchant.

Alice first matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1921, to study for the degree of MA. In her first year she studied Mathematics and French, before picking up Logic and Metaphysics, Natural Philosophy, Higher Mathematics, and Education in the 1922-23 academic year. In her final year she studied English and Higher Natural Philosophy. She graduated from the University of Glasgow on the 4th of July, 1924.

During her studies, Alice lived at 57 Rose Street, in the Garnethill area of Glasgow. Upon graduating, Alice moved back to Ullapool, to live in her family residence of Seabank House. In 1930, she emigrated with her sister and brother-in-law to New Zealand, where she gained employment in office work. Alice died in New Zealand in 1981, aged 78.
