Biography of Aamer Anwar
Aamer Anwar was elected as the University's Rector on 21st March 2017. He received 4458 of the 8210 votes cast. The runner up was Lady Hazel Cosgrove with 1409 votes.
Speaking after his declaration, Aamer Anwar said “I have been inspired by the thousands of students that I have met in the last three weeks whilst touring lectures theatres, student unions, interrupting lunches and holding street meetings. I also want to thank all those student groups and societies that spoke out in support of my campaign".
Aamer Anwar is a prominent Scottish lawyer, noted for his human rights campaigns. He is a graduate of the University of Glasgow and was a very active student campaigner. Whilst at University, Anwar served as President of the Glasgow University Asian Society.
He was installed as Rector at a service in the Bute Hall on the 19th April 2017.
