Fergus Robertson was born in 1893 the son of Christina and James Robertson and educated at Breadalbane Academy, Perth Academy and the University of Glasgow, where he was an Arts student from 1912 until 1915.

He studied a variety of subjects including History, Scottish History, English, French, Latin, Logic and Geology. In Geology he was awarded a prize by his Professor.

In 1916 Fergus enlisted with the 3rd Battalion Royal Scots and attained the rank of Lance Corporal. On the 5th May 1917 he transferred to No. 5 Officer Cadet Battalion at Cambridge and was appointed to a temporary commission as a Second Lieutenant with the 1/5th Battalion the Border Regiment (London Gazette dated 18th September 1917).

Fergus was reported missing on the 21st March 1918 and reported as being a prisoner of war on the 31st March 1918. He died at No. 16 Hospital at Mainz from pneumonia on the 3rd December 1918, aged 26.

Fergus is commemorated on the Aberfeldy Burgh War Memorial, and the Breadalbane Academy War Memorial. He is buried at the Niederzwehren cemetery in Kassel, Germany, (grave reference: III.G.16).
