Biography of Maria Slowey
Maria Slowey was Head of the Department of Adult and Continuing Education at the University from 1992 to 1999 and Head of the ACE and Education Resource Planning Unit from 1993 to 1999. She was appointed to a personal professorship of Adult and Continuing Education in 1996 and became Vice Dean (Research) in the newly established Faculty of Education in 1999.
Professor Slowey took up the new position of Vice-President for Learning Innovation at Dublin City University in February 2004. This post holds the constitutional status of Registrar.
Professor Slowey's research interests include equality of opportunity and widening access to lifelong learning opportunities, comparative tertiary education policy, the participation of adults in education and training and the role of the university in the community. She has published on these areas and has acted as a consultant to a range of bodies. She has also served on many committees relating to adult and lifelong learning.
