Biography of Nanette Hendry Nisbet

Agnes Thomson Hendry Nisbet (Nanette) graduated from the University MBChB in 1948 and MD in 1952.

She was born on 21 May 1925 into an academic family. Her father, R. G. Nisbet, was a lecturer of Humanities at the University of Glasgow for over 35 years and she was the twin sister of graduate and academic Robin George Nisbet.

Nanette first enrolled at the University in 1943 and studied for a Medical degree, taking subjects such as Public Health, Medical Jurisprudence, and Practice of Medicine. She graduated MBChB in 1948 and stayed on to gain an MD, during which she was the Christina Hansen Research Fellow. Dr Nanette Gibson graduated with an MD on 5th July 1952 with a High Commendation for her thesis: The Care of the Elderly.

After graduation Nanette practiced medicine in Glasgow. She was consultant geriatrician at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Dr Nanette Nisbet died aged 89 on 9th September 2014.
