Biography of Andrew Mitchell

Andrew Mitchell matriculated at the University in 1796.

He was born c. 1780 at 'Michelomekenee' or Michilimackinac (a part of British America that later became part of the state of Michigan in the USA). He was the eldest son of Scotland-born David Mitchell, a physician and merchant, and a part-Indian mother, Elizabeth Bertrand.

Mitchell resided on Drummond Island until it joined with America, and then moved with his father to Penetanguishene, Ontario, where he was involved in the fur trade.
