Biography of Ian Henderson

Ian Henderson (1910-1969) was Professor of Systematic Theology at the University from 1948 until 1969.

Born in Edinburgh, Henderson graduated from the University there (MA, 1933 and BD, 1936) and continued his studies in Switzerland. He was ordained Minister of Fraserburgh South and then Kilmany Church, before his appointment to the Chair at Glasgow in 1948.

Considered in his day to be a radical theologian, Henderson published many well-received books and academic articles. He was best known for his Power without Glory: a Study in Ecumenical Politics (1967), a critique of the ecumenical movement.
