Biography of Daniel Travers
Mr Daniel (Dan) Travers was awarded the honorary degree of DUniv on 18 June 2014 in recognition of his sporting achievements.
Travers won Badminton Doubles gold at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh with Billy Gilliland.
Travers competed in three Commonwealth Games, playing singles, doubles, mixed doubles and in the team event in 1978, 1986 and 1990.
With Gilliland, Travers was Scottish doubles champions from 1980 to 1986.
Travers coached the Scottish team to Commonwealth bronze in 2002 in Manchester and today is coach to Badminton Scotland’s junior squad.
He continues to play and in 2013 became world senior singles champion in his age category and also won the mixed doubles with Christine Black (née Heatly).
