Henry Muir

Biography of Henry Muir

Henry Muir matriculated at the University in 1809 to study an Arts course. He was born on 14 October 1792, son of William of Evandale, Lanark.

In 1813 Muir entered the Army Medical Service, and was stationed at Malta. In 1824, he was appointed Inspector General of Health for the Ionian Government, a position he held for twenty years, stationed at Kefalonia and Corfu. He was reported as an intimate friend of the poet Byron, while stationed in Kefalonia, and saw him sail from Argostoli to Missolonghi on board the Hercules on 29 December 1823.

Muir died at Strathaven on 14 December 1858. His son, Henry Skey Muir, graduated from the University MD 1863.
