Otto Hutter

Otto Fred Hutter (1924- ) was Regius Professor of Physiology at the University from 1971 to 1990.

Educated in Vienna and in England, Hutter graduated BSc and PhD from University College, London and worked as a researcher and then as a lecturer in the Department of Physiology there. He was a member of the staff of the National Institute for Medical Research from 1961 until he came to Glasgow ten years later.

Hutter's primary research interests lay in the fields of neuromuscular and synaptic transmission and cardiac and skeletal muscle. He was an international authority on the movement of ion across membranes.

Professor Otto Hutter is currently an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow.
