Biography of Tom White

Thomas Cyril White (1911-1981) was appointed Professor of Orthodontics at the University in 1961 and was Director of both Dental Education and of the Dental Hospital from 1964 to 1976.

White was educated at Glasgow Academy and the Glasgow Dental School, taking his LDS diploma in 1933 and the Triple Qualification in Medicine in 1935. He was appointed an assistant in Orthodontics in 1937 and Lecturer the following year, while continuing his private practice. In 1948 he was appointed whole-time consultant orthodontist in the Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. He was made a CBE in 1977.
