Robert Davidson
Biography of Robert Davidson
Robert Davidson (1927-2012) was Professor of Old Testament Literature and Theology at the University from 1972 to 1991 and Principal of Trinity College from 1982 to 1991. He was awarded an honorary DD in 1993.
Davidson is a graduate of St Andrews (MA, 1949 and BD, 1952) and was an assistant lecturer and then Lecturer in Biblical Studies at the University of Aberdeen from 1953 to 1960. He returned to St Andrews as Lecturer in Hebrew and Old Testament Studies until 1966, when he was appointed Lecturer in Old Testament Studies at the University of Edinburgh. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, 1990 to 1991.
Professor Davidson died on the 22nd September 2012 in Glasgow aged 85.
