Bob Hale

Biography of Bob Hale

Robert (known as Bob) Hale was appointed to the Chair of Metaphysical Philosophy at the University in 1995.

Prior to joining the University, Hale was Reader and Lecturer in Logic and Metaphysics at the University of St Andrews and Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Lancaster. He has been a British Academy Research Reader (1997-9), is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (elected 2000) and was President of the Aristotelian Society in 2002-3.

Hale joined the Department of Philosophy of the University of Sheffield in January 2006. Much of his work has been on the development of the neo-Fregean philosophy of mathematics and on the epistemology and metaphysics of modality.
