Biography of Kouji Satow

Kouji Satow graduated BSc from the University of Glasgow in 1902.

Satow was born 20 January, 1878 in Tokyo, Japan, son of Yoshiburo Satow, who he registered as a scale manufacturer.

Satow enrolled at the University in 1898, and attended classes in Mathematics, Engineering, Natural Philosophy, and Mechanical Engineering. While at the University, he helped translate an official Japanese Government report on the composition of Japanese fields and coal samples for his professor, William Carrick Anderson. This was published in the 1902 Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry. During his time in Glasgow, Satow worked as a draughtsman with Dubs & Company.

After graduation, Satow returned to Japan where he worked as an engineer on the Imagawa-bashi (the Imagawa bridge) in Toyama City.
