Biography of Virgilio Piñero
Virgilio Piñero (Piñeiro) was born in San Nicolás, Argentina, son of Pedro (Peter) and Virginia Fair Cordiviola Piñeiro. Virgilio came to Scotland with his friend José Manuel Pirovano and enrolled at the University in 1908, aged 18. He graduated BSC on 16 November 1912 in Naval Architecture, the first Argentine-born graduate of Naval Architecture.
After a period in the United States, Virgilio returned to Buenos Aires as a Naval Engineer. There he worked at the Ministry of Public Works, the Department of Navigation and Ports, and lectured at the Industrial School of the Nation and the National Association Sarmiento.
Virgilio founded the Navy League Argentina, and the journal Marina.
