Biography of John Douglas Kilpatrick
John Douglas Kilpatrick was born 7 May 1891, in Stranraer, Wigtownshire, to parents Jane Douglas and James Kilpatrick, schoolmaster.
John first matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1909, and studied a variety of subjects including; Latin, Logic, Geography, History and English.
While studying at the University, John was awarded two prizes, one for Logic and Metaphysics and the other was a 2nd Place Prize for Geography in the academic year 1911/12.
John Douglas Kilpatrick graduated with an MA ordinary degree from the University of Glasgow on 18th June 1912.
After graduating, John was employed as a teacher at Arbroath High School.
John was a member of the O. T. C and joined the 3rd Bn King’s Own Scottish Borderers, with whom he fought during World War 1.
John died 5th February 1919 at the age of 27, and is commemorated at Stranraer Cemetery.
John is featured on our WW1 Roll of Honour.
