Hugh Davidson graduated from the University of Glasgow on the 18th of June 1912 with an MA. Davidson was born on the 21st March 1886 and was the son of John Davidson, a surface man. During his time at university, from 1908-1912, Davidson studied subjects such as Higher Logic, Moral Philosophy, Political Economy, English and Mathematics.

Davidson became a minister after graduating, becoming a licentiate of Trinity College in 1916, and his first charge was St Andrews United Free Church, Kirkintilloch, in 1917. Hugh Davidson was married in 1919 and in 1921 he was minister of George Street United Free Parish Church, Paisley. He then moved to West United Free Church, Rothesay in 1925 and then to Wellpark United Free Church, Glasgow in 1932. He retired to Kirkintilloch in 1945 due to ill health, though continued as a Locum minister.

Hugh Davidson died 26th July 1971.
