Biography of Lewis Engel
Lewis Libman Engel (1909-1978) was Macfarlane Professor of Experimental Medicine from 1967 to 1968.
Engel was the American Cancer Society Professor of Biological Chemistry at Harvard Medical School when he was appointed to this visiting professorship. He was an authority on steroid biochemistry, particularly oestrogens, and he came to Glasgow primarily to undertake cancer research at Glasgow Royal Infirmary on the biochemistry of endoctrine neoplasms.
