John Colledge Turnbull attended the University of Glasgow where he studied Law and he graduated from the University on the 6th of November 1902 with a BL.

Turnbull was born on the 4th January 1877 in Dailly, Ayrshire, and was the son of the Reverend George Turnbull and mother Elizabeth Steel Turnbull (née Colledge).

With the outbreak of the First World War, Turnbull was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1916 into the 7th Bn. Highland Light Infantry, and attached to the Royal Scots Fusiliers as Captain. However while in transit to Egypt on board the S.S. Invernia, the ship was torpedoed and sunk on the 1st January 1917. At the end of the war, Turnbull was a Commandant of No. 3 P.O.W. Camp at Sidi Bishir, Alexandria, Egypt. You can see his WW1 Roll of Honour entry here.

After the war Turnbull returned to Glasgow and became a solicitor. John Colledge Turnbull died on the 13th June 1942.
