Robert Paterson
Biography of Robert Paterson
Robert Craig Paterson was Professor of Conservative Dentistry from 1980 to 1996.
Paterson studied at Guy's Hospital Dental School, was awarded his LDS degree by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1964 and then graduated BDS from the University of London in 1965. He held a number of junior hospital posts until 1970, when he was appointed Lecturer in Conservative Dental Surgery at Guy's Hospital Dental School. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer four years later, when he was also awarded a PhD by the University of London for his research into the impoortance of bacterial contamination as a factor influencing dental healing. He was awarded an MDS in 1974.
When he came to Glasgow in 1980, Paterson was invstigating the effects of individual strains of bacteria on the dental tissues.
