Alexander Coull

Alexander Coull (1932- ) was Regius Professor of Civil Engineering at the University from 1977 to 1992.

Born in Peterhead, Coull graduated BSc from the University of Aberdeen in 1953 and worked as a structural engineer before returning to his alma mater in 1957 as a lecturer. He was awarded a PhD in 1961, moved to the University of Southampton the following year, and was appointed Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in 1967.

Coull' s primary research interests were in the behaviour of engineering structures in bridges and tall buildings.
