David Wheatley

David John Wheatley (1941- ) was Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University and Honorary Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary from 1979 to 2006.

Born in Britain, Wheatley studied Medicine at the University of Cape Town Medical School. He worked in South Africa and the USA before returning to the United Kingdom in the late 1960s and holding a number of positions in British hospitals. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in Clinical Surgery at the University of Edinburgh in 1976.

Wheatley specialised in the development of methods and techniques in cardiac and coronary artery surgery. He was President of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland from 1996 to 1998.
