Biography of Charles Fleming

Charles Mann Fleming (1904-1985) was Professor of Administrative Medicine from 1960 to 1971, the first full-time Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from 1959 to 1971 and Dean of Postgraduate Medicine from 1970 to 1972.

Fleming graduated from the University MA (1924), MB, ChB (1929) and MD (1933). He was a Regional Medical Officer with the Department of Health for Scotland (DHS), 1937 to 1939, and Hospital Officer for the Eastern District of Scotland during the Second World War. In 1946, he was appointed Principal Medical Officer with the DHS. He was awarded a CBE in 1964.
