Biography of Adolphus Simpson

Pierce Adolphus Simpson (1837-1900) was Regius Professor of Forensic Medicine at the University, 1872-1898.

Born in Ireland, Simpson studied Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, graduating MA, and was awarded an MD by the University of Edinburgh. He came to Glasgow in the 1860s to set up in private practice. He was Professor of Medical Jurisprudence at Anderson's College from 1866 until his appointment to the Regius Chair and he was a resident surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and an editor of the Glasgow Medical Journal.
