Archie Roy

Archibald (known as Archie) Roy was Emeritus Professor of Astronomy and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. An asteroid is named for him.

After graduating from the University of Glasgow BSc in 1950 and a PhD in 1954 he became a senior lecturer in astronomy at the University in 1966, a Reader in 1976 and a Professor in 1977.

Roy was a Patron of the Churches Fellowship (Scotland) for Psychical and Spiritual Studies and a member of the Scientific and Medical Network. He was a founder of the Scottish Society for Psychical Research in 1987 and its President (2003-2005), as well as being President of the London based Society for Psychical Research (1993-1995), and was awarded its Myers Memorial Medal in 2004 for outstanding contributions to psychical research.
