Biography of David Barlow
David Barlow joined the University in 2005 as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Professor of Reproductive Medicine. He held the post of Executive Dean until his appointment as Head of the restructured School of Medicine on 1 August 2010.
Barlow attended Clydebank High School and then studied at the University, graduating BSc (Hons) in 1971 and MB ChB in 1975. His MD was in post-reproductive endocrinology which led to his interest in the menopause and postmenopausal women's health. He has been involved in research in reproductive endocrinology and infertility since the late 1970s.
In 1984, Barlow moved from Glasgow to the University of Oxford to take up a post as Clinical Reader in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In 1990 he became Nuffield Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He also became Head of the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Oxford and an Honorary Consultant at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital where he was Director of the Reproductive Medicine Programme.
