William Lever
Biography of William Lever
William Lever was an Emeritus Professor and Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Urban Studies at the University of Glasgow. He was previously Professor of Urban Studies.
Born in Accrington in 1943, Lever was educated at the local grammar school. In 1961 he obtained a place at St Peter’s College, Oxford, where he studied for an undergraduate degree in Geography. He received a first class honours degree, and went onto complete a D.Phil in 1967.
After graduating, lever was appointed to an Assistant Lectureship at the University of Glasgow. He progressed quickly through his career, and was appointed Lecturer in 1974, Senior Lecturer in 1976, Reader in 1979 and then Professor in 1982.
Lever was a highly influential academic, and wrote a number on notable books on urban change. He passed away in 2016.
