Thomas Woodrow was born in Paisley 1793, the son of John Woodrow and had a twin brother, William.
He first matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1815 and studied subjects such as Greek, Latin, Ethics and Logic. He graduated with an MA in 1819 and married his first wife, Marian Williamson from Glasgow, the next year. The couple moved to Carlisle where Thomas became a minister of the Independent Church and they left Britain in 1835, settling in Ohio in 1838.
Thomas Woodrow became the grandfather of a future President of the Unites States of America when his eldest daughter, Janet, gave birth to Woodrow Wilson (his father being Joseph Ruggles Wilson).
Thomas Woodrow died in Columbus, Ohio on the 25th March 1877, where he is buried in Greenlawn cemetery.
